Public Biography

Rosalind Ferrante is the chair of the Transportation Committee of Queens Community Board 2, which covers Long Island City, Sunnyside and Woodside, a position she has held since 2017. She has been a member of the board since 2009 and has presided over, by her own count, roughly 340 reviews of street activity permit applications, among them block parties, street fairs, film shoots, two religious processions and one attempt to close a lane of Queens Boulevard for a wedding photograph.

Ms. Ferrante, 66, retired in 2016 after thirty-one years as a dispatcher for the Metropolitan Transportation Authority’s bus operations in Queens, a career she credits with giving her “a working knowledge of where every bus in this borough is at every hour, and why it is late.” She has lived on 43rd Avenue in Sunnyside since 1987.

Her committee meets on the third Tuesday of every month in a public school cafeteria on 43rd Avenue. Its minutes, which Ms. Ferrante reviews personally before posting, are regarded by board members as unusually complete and by applicants as unusually literal.

In October 2026 she presided over the committee’s review of the Queens SlopWalk, a march proposed by Lowell Pruett of Slop Nation, and stated the limits of the committee’s jurisdiction in a form since quoted in the borough press: “We do not rule on the meaning of words. We rule on whether a bus can get through.”
