Public Biography

Dennis Halvorson is a retired radiology technician and the longtime treasurer of the Greater Washtenaw Star Trek Society, a fan club that meets every other Thursday in the basement fellowship hall of St. Jude’s Episcopal Church in Ann Arbor, Michigan. He has served as the society’s treasurer since 2011, the longest unbroken tenure in that role in the organization’s history.

Mr. Halvorson, 62, worked for thirty-one years at the St. Joseph Mercy Ann Arbor hospital system before retiring in 2022. He has attended every biennial meeting of the regional Federation-canon symposium since 1998 and, in 2014, authored a short paper in the society’s internal newsletter, Subspace Quarterly, titled “On the Admissibility of Beta-Canon Material in Chapter Debate,” which has been cited, informally, in at least three subsequent internal disputes.

He is known within the society for his strict but fair adherence to its parliamentary procedure, for a collection of Federation Diplomatic Corps enamel lapel pins that he rotates weekly, and for being the member most likely to, in his own words, “just let a thing go for the sake of the group.”
