Public Biography
Frank Henderson, 47, is a regional sales manager for a commercial flooring distributor and a resident of Gahanna, Ohio, a suburb that lies beneath the eastern approach to John Glenn Columbus International Airport. He covers a four-state territory and flies, by his own count, between thirty and forty times a year, nearly all of it out of Columbus.
Mr. Henderson came to public attention in October 2026 as the author of a proposal to abolish passenger screening at American airports and replace it with a stainless-steel bowl of knives at the end of every jetway, from which boarding passengers would each take one and to which they would return it on deplaning. The proposal, which he has described as “self-policing,” was drawn on the reverse of a boarding pass following a screening at Columbus earlier that month during which he was required to remove his shoes, surrender a bottle of shampoo whose legality he continues to maintain, and observe a gloved hand enter his carry-on bag. He has not submitted the proposal to the Transportation Security Administration, the Federal Aviation Administration or any carrier, preferring, he has said, to “let the idea marinate.” The T.S.A. has nonetheless had a copy since the morning he described it to a reporter, the boarding pass having passed through the Concourse B checkpoint in a bin, face up.
Secondary design questions on which he has said he is still working include whether the knives should be serrated and whether passengers in first class should be offered “a smaller, more attractive bowl.” Losses would be recovered through a “lost utensil fee” assessed on the passenger’s next ticket, a mechanism he has compared to hotel policy on hangers.
