Public Biography
Dr. Janet Okonkwo is a professor of applied mathematics at the University of Chicago, where her research focuses on computational fluid dynamics and numerical methods. She has been a member of the department since 2010 and has served on the faculty senate and the committee responsible for the departmental photocopier budget, the latter of which she considers the more consequential role.
Dr. Okonkwo received her Ph.D. from MIT and completed postdoctoral work at the Courant Institute. She is regarded by students as an unusually clear lecturer and by colleagues as a stabilizing presence in departmental meetings, which in a mathematics department is both rare and essential.
She lives in Evanston, Illinois.
